FORMATION OF THE TRANS PACIFIC BASKETBALL ALLIANCE (TPBA)

Growing the sport of basketball across Australia and New Zealand

Tauranga, New Zealand: Tauranga City Basketball Association today announced the formation of the Trans Pacific Basketball Alliance. A new alliance with:

• Northern Suburbs Basketball Association Inc. (New South Wales)
• Hills Basketball Association (New South Wales)
• Dandenong Basketball Association (Victoria)
• Knox Basketball Association (Victoria)
• Harbour Basketball Association (New Zealand)
• Tauranga City Basketball (New Zealand)

The purpose of the Alliance is to grow the Sport of Basketball, especially within their geographic areas, and enhance their Members’ experiences, by improving the quality of services provided by each Association. With over 43,000 participants across Australia and New Zealand, the TPBA is expected to be an attractive vehicle for sponsors. 

Mark Rogers, General Manager of Tauranga City Basketball Association commented “This is a great way to grow basketball in all our areas. It provides an opportunity for all of us to share information and experiences to provide the best experiences for our members.”

Graeme Reid, Chief Executive Officer of Northern Suburbs Basketball Association, says, “We are excited about bringing together the largest basketball associations across Australia and New Zealand. Although located a long way apart geographically, we all share a common vision for our own clubs and basketball in general.”

“Each association brings its own unique knowledge and experience to the TPBA, which means we can all learn and benefit from each other” said Grant Harrison, Chief Executive Officer of Knox Basketball Association. “The opportunities available to sponsors to access so many people across such a large area is unique and opens the door to many interesting possibilities.”

Northern Suburbs Basketball Association Inc.

Norths is a community based not for profit sporting association with a North Shore history extending over forty years. NSBA has grown from a small group of interested basketball players in the early 1980s to a champion Association with over 6,500 participants.

Hills Basketball Association Inc.

Established in the early 1980's and incorporated since 1989, the Association built the Hills Sports Stadium in 1995 and quickly grew to be one of the largest and most professional basketball associations within New South Wales, with around 7,000 participants.

Dandenong Basketball Association

Dandenong Basketball Association is located in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the largest associations in Australia, with 8,000 playing in approximately 800 domestic teams on a weekly basis. It is held in high esteem and strives to achieve excellence both on and off the court.

Knox Basketball Association

Knox Basketball Incorporated (KBI) is in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the largest basketball associations in Australia with over 11,000 members in approximately 1069 teams competing every week in their Junior and Senior domestic competitions.

North Harbour Basketball Association

Harbour Basketball is the largest and most successful basketball Association in New Zealand, with more than 6,500 members. Harbour Basketball offers a large number of activities and programmes of excellent quality providing a pathway for every basketballer to realise his or her ambition.

Tauranga City Basketball

Tauranga City Basketball is Basketball New Zealand’s affiliated association in the Bay of Plenty region, with over 4,000 members.  They run a wide range of competitions that cater for everybody from Primary (Years 1 - 6), Intermediate, Secondary School players through to Premier & Social Leagues for adults.
