Basketball NZ - Basketball Development Levy
On behalf of Basketball New Zealand (NZ) and your Associations, we want to thank the basketball community for being amongst the many New Zealanders that participate regularly in our fabulous sport.
Our strength and success at a national and international level is only possible because the sport is equally strong at a community level.
As basketball continues to grow, so too does the need to invest in and develop priority areas to support improved participation experiences for our game.
From 1 January 2025, an annual Basketball Development Levy of $5 for Under 14-year-olds, $10 for 15- to 19-year-olds and $15 for 20+ year-olds per player will be introduced across the country.
The levy will be collected by Basketball NZ, and in collaboration with our Associations, will be directed towards a range of key initiatives outlined below;
? Improved Digital Platforms: Upgrades to online platforms for better user experience, making it easier for players and coaches to access resources and information.
?Online Training Resources: Development of digital coaching and player development materials, such as webinars, tutorials, and instructional videos.
?Enhanced Communication Tools: Implementation of better communication channels to keep participants informed about events, programs, and opportunities.
?Member benefits: The levy will unlock exclusive VIP offers, discounts and benefits to all paying members. Details in this will continue to evolve, more information can be found here in the Members Benefits section.
The levy will apply to all players in regular season competitions. The levy is paid once per player per year, regardless of how many times they play or how many competitions they play in.
The levy is not paid by coaches, officials, volunteers and administrators, unless they are also registered to play.
No matter how many times a week someone might play, this Levy is only paid once per calendar year.
The Levy will be automatically collected from participants when they register to play basketball with their association through our national registration platform called GameDay.
You can find more information about the Levy and frequently asked questions on the BBNZ Website
Basketball NZ and Associations value the support and dedication of each member within our basketball community.
This Levy will enable us to deliver a world class basketball experience for everyone involved. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this transition period.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to basketball. Together, through our vision of “a hoop in the heart of every community” we can continue to inspire, empower, and grow the sport we all love.
